About Heels Dance Classes in Oxford
Heels is stylised, sassy choreography danced in heels — a style stitched together from struts, body rolls, hair flicks and floor work, all set to current pop and R&B. Our weekly heels classes in Oxford build everything on the four pillars the style depends on: posture, balance, power and attitude. You will learn to walk with intention, hold strong lines, drop to the floor and recover with control, then thread it all into a routine you can genuinely perform.
Oxford has plenty of fitness studios and student nights, but a regular heels class for adult beginners and improvers has been a rare find. We are kicking ours off in a hired studio in Oxford city centre, an easy journey for dancers based in Abingdon, Witney, Bicester or Banbury and across Oxford. The focus is as much on how you feel as how you move — this is a confidence-building class first, and the choreography is the joyful part that gets you there.
You do not need to arrive in heels or with any dance background. Plenty of dancers start in trainers and switch to heels they can move in once their balance feels solid — there is no rush and no pressure. Browse the complete set of 20 dance classes in Oxford, or bring everyone along for a one-off burlesque hen party.

What You Get From Heels
Unshakeable Attitude
Heels teaches you to perform like the room is yours. The mix of posture, struts and choreography hands you a swagger that sticks around well after the shoes come off.
Balance & Power
Moving on a heel fires up the ankles, core and legs in a way flat dancing never will, building genuine balance, stability and lower-body strength session by session.
Choreography to Show Off
Every class lands a full routine of struts, rolls and floor work that looks brilliant on camera or on a night out — yours to keep and perform whenever you like.
Start at Your Pace
Trainers on night one are absolutely fine. We coach the technique gently so you only step up into heels you can move in once your balance feels rock solid.
Your Heels Dance Journey
From your first confident strut to performing a full routine with attitude — here is how it unfolds.
Standing Tall
Getting Started
Posture, the heels walk and your first body rolls, with balance drills to settle your weight. Learning to carry yourself with intention before any fast choreography arrives.
Shoe Advice
Begin in trainers if you like. When you fancy heels, choose a secure block or platform you can genuinely move in and leave the slim stilettos until your ankles are stronger.
Finding Your Power
Developing Technique
Hair flicks, hip isolations, knee drops and smooth lowers to the floor, supported by the ankle and core strength that keeps the bigger moves safe and clean.
Choreography Basics
Short combinations stitching struts, turns and level changes together. The moment dancing stops feeling careful and starts feeling powerful and sassy.
Owning the Performance
Floor Work & Attitude
Full floor sequences — drops, slides, leg extensions and clean recoveries back to standing — layered with the character and edge that make heels unmistakable.
Finding Your Style
Sultry R&B, fierce pop, playful and theatrical — you discover which energy feels like you and begin shaping a signature way of moving.
The Heels Performer
Advanced Choreography
Longer, faster routines with quick transitions and intricate floor work, performed full out with the polish and confidence of a real show.
What Comes Next
Branch into commercial or contemporary for extra technique, film content to share, or step into performance showcases when they come up.
Heels Dance FAQ
What dancers usually want to know before slipping into a pair of heels.
What actually happens in a heels dance class? +
It is stylised, sassy choreography danced in heels. Expect struts, body rolls, hair flicks and floor work set to current pop and R&B, all built on posture, balance, power and attitude. Each routine is broken down step by step so every level can pick it up and perform it with confidence.
Do I have to wear heels to join in? +
No. You are welcome to start in trainers and add heels only when you feel ready — the technique works the same way either side. When you do switch, bring heels you can genuinely move in, ideally a secure block or platform rather than a delicate stiletto.
I have never danced before — is heels suitable for beginners? +
Completely. Beginners are welcome and the class is designed for all levels. We start with posture, walking and balance before layering on choreography, so you build the foundations properly rather than being thrown in at the deep end on your first night.
What do I pay for a heels class in Oxford? +
A single drop-in is £10 with nothing to sign up to. If you would rather commit, a four-week block is £32, which comes to £8 per class. There are no contracts and no joining fees — you simply book the sessions that suit you.
Which studio in Oxford runs the heels classes? +
Sessions run from a studio we hire in Oxford city centre — a short walk from Gloucester Green and the city's main shops. Further venues around Oxford are in the pipeline, so do ask if you would like a class nearer to you.
Is it safe to dance in heels? +
Yes, when you build up sensibly. We spend time on weight placement, controlled lowering and ankle strength before moving into faster choreography and floor work. Knee pads help during floor sequences, and you progress to height only once your balance is solid.
What is the difference between heels and commercial dance? +
Commercial is the high-energy, music-video style usually danced flat in trainers. Heels takes that performance attitude and lifts it onto a heel, sharpening the posture, lines and struts while adding sultry body rolls and floor work. They share DNA, but heels lives and breathes through the shoe.
Is heels class only for women? +
Not at all — everyone is welcome whatever their gender. Heels is about expression, confidence and movement, and dancers of every background thrive in it. Come in heels or trainers, whichever feels right for you, and join a room that cheers each other on.
Can heels dancing help me feel more confident? +
That is the heart of it. Standing tall, owning a strut and performing choreography you never thought you could do has a way of changing how you carry yourself. Most dancers leave walking a little taller, and that confidence tends to follow them out of the studio.
Can I book a one-to-one heels session? +
Of course — we can set up private one-to-ones or a session for your whole group whenever suits. They are ideal for nailing technique at your own pace, prepping a routine for an event or building confidence before joining the weekly class. Get in touch and we will sort the details.
